- Get The Proform 5.0 Crosstrainer For $549
- Rank: 3rd out of 17 treadmills under $600
- Good Points
- this treadmill comes with a few workout programs that also work your upper body by utilizing mini hand weights that they provide free of charge
- comes with carb counter which determines how many carbs you've burned based on the number of calories you've burned
- also comes with a way to input how much you weigh so the figure for calories burned is accurate
- though the belt is of an average size, for a treadmill that sells for less than $600 it's decent
- one year parts warranty on a $600 treadmill is more generous than usual for a Proform
- Bad Points
- a 19" wide belt never feels as good as 20"
- console looks a little plain
- a more powerful motor would make sense on this treadmill but luckily there's a long motor warranty
- short on program variety and no iFit compatibility so you're stuck with the same old programs
- Comments
- In a lot of ways, the Proform 5.0 Crosstrainer is very similar to its older brother, the Proform 5.5 Crosstrainer as their names would suggest. If you've read our review of the Proform 5.5 already, you would know that it's one of the better if not best deals for under $600. So how does the Proform 5.0 fare against it? The answer is slightly worse but not far off.
First of all, the Proform 5.0 is often just slightly less expensive than the 5.5. For this little bit of savings, you're actually losing quite a bit in the feature department. The horsepower rating of the motor has gone down by a quarter HP. The belt width has shrunk by an inch. You've lost more than a dozen workout programs. You also get a console that's significantly less sophisticated (although this might just be a personal taste thing). By giving up all these things, you're only saving $50 which is their price difference at the time of writing. The extras are worth way more than $50 if you ask me.
Although I believe the 5.0 is not nearly as good of a deal as the 5.5, it's still one of the better offerings from Proform in this price range. In terms of quality, it likely won't last very long for uses other than walking. But the fact that it can actually handle a user that mainly walks with the occasional jog and sprint, is saying a lot! Products by Proform of years past that are sold for $500 or so have always been of suspicious quality but there is nothing that suggests that this seems to be the case with the Proform 5.0.
