- Get The Proform 5.5 Crosstrainer For $599
- Rank: 1st out of 17 treadmills under $600
- Good Points
- sleek console design for a sub $500 treadmill
- finding a mid sized belt (20"x50") on a low budget treadmill is a nice surprise
- incorporates exercising with a healthy food plan through the use of the iFit Challenge Training center is a great idea
- 24 is a lot of programs for a treadmill at any price and you get this in a sub $500 treadmill
- 12 year motor warranty and 1 year parts and labor warranty is generous considering the price of the treadmill
- Bad Points
- unclear as to whether the motor is 2.25THP or 2.25CHP; if the motor is not CHP, this could potentially lead to a lot of problems because you're dealing with a severely undersized motor with a big belt but at least you have a long motor warranty
- only goes up to 10% incline
- 300 lb weight capacity number is likely to be exaggerated as you generally get what you pay and in this case, you're not paying a whole lot
- not foldable

- The Proform 5.5 Crosstrainer is by no means a treadmill that can take a regular runner and I fear that even regular joggers may also send this treadmill to the graveyard prematurely. But if you are a buyer that is on a tight budget and $600 is absolutely, the most you can spend on a treadmill, the Proform 5.5 Crosstrainer is your best bet.
When you buy a treadmill that's around the $500 area, you should know that anything more than regular walking is really going to shorten the treadmill's lifespan. So if you are planning on buying the Proform 5.5 Crosstrainer for your home, you must buy it with that mindset. This doesn't mean that the treadmill will break down on you if you jog a few times at 6.5 mph or if you have the occasional urge to sprint at 10 mph, but rather, you should only indulge in these actions, occasionally.
So why is this treadmill pretty much better than all the treadmills in this price range? For one, the treadbelt and motor combination is decent. You don't find too many treadmills with a 20"x55" belt for this price. With a mid sized belt like this one, you also need a mid sized motor to handle the job and it seems 2.25 HP is going to be borderline sufficient. This treadmill also comes with a warranty of 1 year parts and labor which could very well have been 90 days as Proform is usually pretty stingy with their warranties. The last thing that makes the Proform 5.5 Crosstrainer stand out is the large number of workout programs (24) it comes with and you also get workout fans, a pretty nice looking console and the iFit Challenge Training Center.
For a treadmill that's middle of the line in quality, above average in features and highly affordable, the Proform 5.5 Crosstrainer is one of Proform's best offerings if you can't spend more than $600.
